Lucien Alexandre Guillemaut (born August 21, 1842 in Louhans , † April 10, 1917 in Paris ) was a French doctor , politician and local historian .

biography

Lucien Guillemaut was born in Louhans in the Bresse into a family that was politically active. His father and two other ancestors were already Maires of the city of Louhans . He became a doctor and practiced in his hometown.

politics

He became Maire of Louhans in 1878 and General Councilor of the Canton of Louhans in 1880 . Under his leadership, a new elementary school and high school for girls was built in Louhans, and in 1885 the Musée Municipal (city museum). In 1885 he resigned as mayor. 1884-1898 he was a deputy until 1898 on the Republican list - which at that time against the reactionaries , presented to the Senate was elected. He was re-elected in 1900 and 1909 and died in office in Paris in 1917.

Lucien Guillemaut was a historian mainly for the Bresse and the Bresse louhannaise . In 1911 , Guillemaut founded the Société des Amis des Arts et des Sciences de la Bresse Louhannaise , which still exists today and publishes regular bulletins.

Honors

Guillemaut was awarded the Médaille d'honneur pour acte de courage et de dévouement in 1878 and he was an officer of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques as an award for his works. Louhans and Sainte-Croix have named streets after Lucien Guillemaut , and Louhans has a bust of him. In 2011 an exhibition was held in honor of Lucien Guillemaut, combined with the sale of a stamp dedicated to him.
