Toponymy
The place appears for the first time in 930, in 1155 the Capella de Vincella is mentioned. A cella is a hut, often used as accommodation for shepherds, but also for hermits. It remains to be seen whether the place name is derived from vicus and cella , i.e. as an area with shepherds' huts. After all, it is an area that is rich in water from Seille and Servonne and has abundant forest cover . Many areas are poorly suited for settlement, which suggests using them as pastures. Another attempt to explain it leads back to vinicella in the sense of a small vineyard.
history
The Roman road from Louhans to Bellevesvre led through Vincelles, it largely coincides with the route of today's D13. The area belonged to the Lord of Salins , Knight Jean de Salins , Lord of Vincelles, (adviser and chamberlain to Duke Philip of Burgundy , Maître d'Hôtel of Isabel of Portugal , Vogt of Dole ) married Jeanne Bouton , whose family in turn fief in Saint -Usuge belonged. In 1455, Jean de Salins donated a chapel that belonged to the parish of Saint-Usuge . In the 18th century the rule came into the possession of the Marquis de Beaurepaire , who integrated the chapel into their castle, which was located above the Seille . An agricultural building that was in front of the castle still bears the name Le Château today . Two mills date from the 18th century, Le Moulin Roy ceased operations in 1975. Vincelles became its own parish in 1860 and the church dedicated to Saint George was built between 1856 and 1870 . It also stands on a hill above the Seille , above the ruins of an old moth . The hamlets of Ambutelière and Montsavin did not belong to the rule of the Salins , but were part of Louhans . The castle in Ambutelière was built in the 19th century. In 1988 there were still 28 farms.
