Toponymy

1078 is mentioned in the registers of the monastery of Cluny In Varinetis , today's hamlet of Varignolles . Condai , today's Condal, is first mentioned in 1211. It can be assumed that the place name goes back to the Celtic term Condate and refers to the confluence of the Ruisseau de Besançon in the Solnan .

history

Condal was an independent rule that belonged to the monastery of Saint-Taurin de Gigny until 1693 . After this point in time, the monks only retained the tithe and rule over the parish. Secular rule passed to the Tribillet family and in 1759 to the Chaignon , who originally came from the Périgord . Pierre de Chaignon probably lived as ambassador in Sion , in the Republic of Valais, and was close friends with Jean-Jacques Rousseau . Maurice-Théodule-Pierre-Louis-Philippe-Marc-Georges de Chaignon , born April 22, 1762 died on March 22, 1822 in Condal, he was an officer in Switzerland for twelve years, knight of the Ordre royal et militaire de Saint-Louis and Maire de Condal from the year IX of the Revolution to 1822. He was also General Councilor of Saône-et-Loire from 1816 until his death in 1822.

Villard-Chapel was an independent fiefdom that belonged to Madame de Montessus in 1780 . Saint-Sulpice was also independent and belonged to a family of that name who owned a fortress with towers there. It is known that a member of that family took part in the Crusades. In 1809 Saint-Sulpice was incorporated into the Condal municipality.

The municipality is located in a rather sensitive area, with both the Ruisseau Besançon and the Solnan draining large stretches of the Jura. The following natural disasters are noted recently:

  • Storm damage from November 6-10, 1982
  • Floods and debris flows from December 8th to 31st, 1982
  • Floods and debris flows from May 12-13, 1983
  • Floods and debris flow from May 6-20, 1985
  • Floods and debris flows from October 24-26, 1999
  • Earthmoving as a result of the drought and subsequent water balance from July 1 to September 30, 2003
