About this picture

Simard is located in the Bresse countryside , around 6 kilometers southwest of Saint-Germain-du-Bois and is crossed in a north-south direction by the D678 departmental road (section Thurey - Louhans ). In Simard it takes the department of road D996 from Mervans on. The Ruisseau Briant forms a short stretch of the western municipal boundary ; it then flows through the northern municipal area and finally flows into the Guyotte at Mervans . It picks up a number of Biefs and drains the area north of the Bourg to the north. At Moure , southwest of the Bourg , La Servonne rises , it briefly forms the southwestern municipal boundary and includes the Ruisseau des Roths , the Ruisseau de Promby and the Ruisseau de Chaintre . Simard lies on the watershed between the Doubs and Seille . Today there are almost ten étangs in the municipal area, but older sources mention 15 étangs , which suggests that most of the waters are biefs , artificial watercourses for the management of the étangs , which have now been silted up and made arable. The municipal area is practically forestless, only in the south there are small contiguous forest areas. The following hamlets and corridors belong to the municipality: Agrillon, Arsières, Basse-Cour, Bessandrey, Bessimont, Bois-Brûlé, Bons-Amis, Bruyères, Brudins, Champ-du-Quain, Champ-Guines, Chandelux, Commarets, Communauté, Corbot , Cornillons, Duchamps, Gallet, Grand-Cerisier, Grande-Chaux, Grange-Neuve, Grigots, Grosjean, Grubis, Gruères, Guichards, Hugonneaux, Marenoire, Mares-Boucaut, Meix-à-Longlet, Meix-Chantereau, Meix-Pernot , Meix-Vallant, Montfleury, Motte, Moure, Perroir, Petit-Cerisier, Petite-Chaux, Peutots, Planche-Callot, Pont-de-Briant, Pont-Jallot, Princes, Promby, Putigny, Roches, Toines, Toppes, Tuilerie , Venessereau, Vernotte, Villeveuve, Voirie.

Toponymy

Simard is mentioned for the first time in 1299, in connection with a Stephanus de Simard . It is generally assumed that the place name goes back to the Germanic name Sigmar . The Symard family came from the Baume Bailiwick in Franche-Comté and only died out during the Revolution .

history

The community consisted of three fiefs in the Middle Ages, Bessandrey , Chaux and Simard , which belonged to the Symard family. In the 15th and 16th centuries it was owned by the Rupt family , and in the 17th century by Thésut , who came from the Charolais . By marrying Jeanne-Marie de Thezut , the rule passed to Philibert Bernard Gagne de Perrigny in 1728 . In Bessandrey , which was part of Mervan's fief , there was a castle that was destroyed in 1785. The church and rectory were built in 1820, the church renovated and rebuilt from 1869 to 1886. In 1883, the Dijon - Bourg-en-Bresse line opened, the boys 'school and the Mairie were built in 1889, the girls' school and post office in 1892. In Bessandrey there was a brickworks and a mill, and in 1988 there were 53 farms in the community.

heraldry

The municipality uses the coat of arms, which goes back to Jeanne-Marie de Thezut . She donated a bed to the poor of the Simard Congregation at Louhans Hospital in 1764 and was a benefactor for the Simard Church. The coat of arms can be found on the building of the café and in the hall of the youth center. Blazon: Three golden tail wheels in blue, arranged 2: 1 .
