Toponymy

The oldest known mention of the place goes back to 1155 Ecclesia de Monistrolio , so the church dedicated to St. Peter must have already existed. What the place name Monistrolio , Monestruel is due to, is not known, but it led to the current community name Ménetreuil . Until after the revolution it was written without an accent aigu ; today you can also find Ménétreuil and the accentless Menetreuil .

history

There used to be three different dominions in the municipality, the oldest, the dominion of Rambeau , goes back to a Ramboz family . Jeann de Ramboz donated a chapel in the church of Ménetreuil in 1377. Through their marriage, the rule came into the possession of Jean de Charnez . The lordship of Les Devus was owned by the Lords of Brancion and belonged to the Barony of Montpont , both of which had their own castle. Finally there was the dominion of Montjay , which was owned by the Fyot de la Marche family and whose castle stood on an island in the Sane , with a train and fixed bridge.

The municipality is located in a rather delicate area where the waters that cross it drain large stretches of the Jura foot. The following natural disasters are noted recently:

  • Storm damage from November 6th to 10th, 1982
  • Floods and debris flows from December 8 to 31, 1982
  • Floods and debris flows from May 12-13, 1983
  • Floods and debris flows from May 6 to May 20, 1985
  • Floods and debris flows from October 5 to 10, 1993
  • Floods and debris flows from October 24th to 26th, 1999
  • Floods and debris flows from November 24th to 26th, 2002
  • Earthmoving as a result of the drought and subsequent water balance from July 1 to September 30, 2003
  • Floods and debris flows from April 17th to 19th, 2005
