Toponymy

The name possibly goes back to a settlement of the Boier , who settled along the Roman road between Saint-Germain-du-Bois and Villevieux . The place is first mentioned in 1144 as Boens .

history

From the bridge near the hamlet of L'Estalet, a Roman road led to Villevieux and grazed Bouhans in the south, and in the west a Roman road ran from Saint-Germain-du-Bois to Bellevesvre and grazed the hamlet of La Balme . In the 12th century, the rule of clean animals belonged to the Saint-Vincent church in Chalon-sur-Saône , which they passed on to the Saint-Marcel monastery . The reign was later called La Balme . In 1645 Louis de la Balme received permission from the king to hold a fair every year on the two days following the feast day of Saint Louis , August 25th. This should not least serve the reconciliation with the residents of Franche-Comté , which was Spanish at the time. In addition, celebrations in honor of St. Louis and the weapons inspection took place on August 25th. Linen and cloth were mainly traded until 1860, until a customs post was set up at the Pont d'Etalet , which encouraged the participation of Freiberg traders. The market reached its heyday at the time of Napoleon Bonaparte and then lost its importance.

In the 18th century there was a castle in la Balme with its own chapel and exquisite library belonging to the Scoraille family , who took over the rule in 1658. The castle was destroyed around 1818. The lordship of Eurarde originally belonged to the Brancion , later it also came to the Scorailles , as did the lords of Chênes and Lisle-en-Bresse . The church (dedicated to Saint Martin ) was built in 1719, the tower in 1862. In 1988 there were still 22 farms.
