The canton of Pierre-de-Bresse is a French constituency in the arrondissement of Louhans , in the department of Saône-et-Loire and in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté . Its main town is Pierre-de-Bresse .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton Pierre-de-Bresse included the 17 municipalities of Authumes , Beauvernois , Bellevesvre , Charette-Varennes , Dampierre-en-Bresse , Fretterans , Frontenard , La Chapelle-Saint-Sauveur , and La Chaux , La Racineuse , Lays-sur-le-Doubs , Montjay , Mouthier-en-Bresse , Pierre-de-Bresse , Pourlans , Saint-Bonnet-en-Bresse and Torpes . Its layout corresponded to an area of 253.70 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 7139.
Education and first choice
In 2015 (March 22 and 29), the departmental councils were elected for the first time using a new election procedure. In advance, the number of cantons was halved, but the candidacies were always made in pairs with a woman and a man. At the same time, the cantons were determined according to demographic criteria, in that the difference in the population figures of the cantons within the department must not be more than 20%. The canton area must be contiguous and municipalities with up to 3,500 inhabitants may not be divided between several cantons.
