The canton of Montret from 2015

In 2015 (March 22 and 29), the departmental councils were elected for the first time using a new electoral process. In advance, the number of cantons was halved, but the candidacies were always made in pairs with a woman and a man. At the same time, the cantons were determined from a demographic point of view, in that the difference in the population figures of the cantons within the department must not exceed 20%. The canton area must be contiguous and municipalities with up to 3,500 inhabitants may not be divided between several cantons.

As part of this restructuring, the nine municipalities of the canton of Montret were divided into two cantons. Seven municipalities became part of the canton of Louhans , and La Frette and Savigny-sur-Seille have since been part of the canton of Cuiseaux . The canton of Montret ceased to exist on March 29, 2015.
