Toponymy

A first mention goes back to the year 1179, in which the name Mons Aureus (German: Goldberg) is mentioned. Through various developments, the name became the current place name, which, by the way, is traditionally pronounced as Mon-tré .

history

Montret lies on a Roman road that led from Chalon-sur-Saône via Louhans to Lons-le-Saunier , some archaeological finds have been brought to light. The municipality belonged to a large extent to the Marquisate of Branges , together with other places in the region. Les Trigots belonged to the Tournus monastery , Bordiau , le Fahy and les Berthoux to Saint-Pierre in Chalon-sur-Saône . In 1856 a moth was still visible in the hamlet of Bordiau , which was three meters high. The old church was located near a spring on the road from the village center towards Saint-Vincent-en-Bresse , it was destroyed in the first half of the 19th century. In 1862 the new church was built, dedicated to Saint Loup , the eighth bishop of Chalon-sur-Saône . The boys' school, Justice House and Mairie were built in 1845, and in 1870 the station on the Chalon-sur-Saône - Lons-le-Saunier line , which was abandoned in 1955. The girls' school dates from 1901, the post office from 1909 and 1910, the old free school becomes a police station. Today the Mairie is in an old grocery store. Julien Duriez , painter from Chalon-sur-Saône , born in Saint-Usuge , lived in Montret. The Serrée formed the border between Droit Écrit and Droit Coutumier . In 1988 there were still 28 farms. On August 1, 1849, the hamlet of Montroux was detached from Savigny-sur-Seille and merged with Montret.

heraldry

The official coat of arms of the municipality does not seem to be used in the municipality, nor are any images known. Its origin is also unknown. Blazon: In blue a golden rafter, accompanied by two shells in the head and a golden rose in the base of the shield.
