Toponymy

The first mentions of places of today's municipality go back to the year 1078 and concern Villare Putech , the hamlet of Villars-Putet (1.2 kilometers southwest of the place), Humbertus de Tileriis , the hamlet of Tillières (today the northernmost district of the place) and Domnus Martinus . This had the meaning of Mr. Martinus , which can also refer to a possession. The addition -lès-Cuiseaux was only given to the municipality after the revolution . The preposition lès arose from the old form lez and means on the side of - bei , so the place is now called Herr Martinus bei Cuiseaux .

history

Originally, the largest part of the municipality belonged to the Brancion family , the Lords of Visargent , later the lordship was combined with the Cuiseaux lordship. Most of the parish thus belonged to the barony of Cuiseaux, but there were also the fiefs of Chavanne and Varignolles . Dommartin owned a church that was mentioned as early as the 12th century, it was dedicated to St. Bartholomew , the current church building dates from 1858. The Solnan divides the jurisdictions of Varennes and Cuiseaux.
