Toponymy

The place appears for the first time around 944 as Flagiacum , it was probably the property of a Flaccius . A tribe of the Celts , the Scutingi , settled in this area, so the first settlement is likely to be a long time ago.

history

951 bestows Archbishop of Besancon the monastery of Cluny an area in Flacey, including the church. This was consecrated to Saint Martin and, thanks to the proximity of the Jura, was built from limestone. Nevertheless, it became dilapidated in the 19th century and had to be thoroughly renovated.

In the 14th century the rule belonged to Henri de Belvoir , a vassal of the Lords of Sainte-Croix , who in turn were vassals of the Dukes of Burgundy . A family named themselves after the place, in 1410 a Jean de Flacey was castellan of Saint-Laurent . In the 15th century, Flacey belonged to the influential Salins family . By marriage, the rule came to the Luyrieux and later to the Coligny . The last of the Coligny family sold the lordship together with the Beaufort lordship to Étienne Berton in 1662 . His daughter brought the rule into marriage to Antoine de Laurencin .

Flacey Castle stood on a moth , surrounded by moats and houses that are still called Le Châtel today. The moth, which was around 60 meters in diameter, is now cultivated land. A Roman fort is said to have existed in the hamlet of Le Villard .
