Toponymy

The place appears for the first time in 1272 in connection with Renaudus de Monconi, alias Montconys . Courtépée traces the place name back to Mons Siconis , i.e. to the mountain of Sico , while Ernest Nègre traces the name back to the Langue d'Oïl , according to which it originated from mont and connil and therefore means Hasenberg .

history

Until 1685 Montcony was just a hamlet of Saint-Usuge , but was the seat of a respected noble family, the lords of Montcony . These belonged to today's municipal area, but also other lands in Saint-Usuge , Simard and Montagny-près-Louhans .

On October 23, 1942 at 10:15 p.m., a Handley Page Halifax crashed near the palace gardens. The eight crew members of the Allied forces were killed and are buried in the Montcony cemetery.
