Toponymy

The place is first mentioned in 1294 in connection with a Pierre du Tartre . The Tertre , as the name for a hill, is located in the center of the village and is likely to be the namesake for the community.

history

The community arose between the old Roman road that led from the Pont d'Étalet to Villevieux and the Seille in the south. The place developed around the castle, of which a moth is still visible (12 meters long and 4 meters high) and is known as Tertre (German: hill, hill). Around 1250 Le Tartre belonged to Bosjean and was thus a fief of the lords of Vienne . Fief-takers since the 14th century were a family that took the name of the place. Guy du Tartre was the 22nd abbot of the Miroir ( Cistercian monastery ) in 1361 , while Guillaume du Tartre was general manager of the Burgundy gendarmerie in 1622 and thus court official of the Spanish king. In 1561, Jean Bouton acquired parts of the estate that passed to the Hébert family at the beginning of the 17th century . In the 17th century the Bernard de Saint-Aubin family became the owners, at the time of the Revolution Marquis Bernard de Sassenay , Viscount of Chalon-sur-Saône, Baron of Tartre, Lord of Perrey, Le Deffend, Chemenod, Saint-Aubin, captain of a Dragoon Regiment. At the end of the 18th century, Madame de Courteille , Countess of Bosjean, asserted her rights. In 1636 the castle was devastated by the Comtois and completely destroyed in 1793. On a branch of the Seille, the stately mill was built shortly after the castle , which in 1806 had nine mill wheels (four undershot and five overshot ) and existed until 1966. In 1856 there was an oil mill and a brick factory in addition to the mill . In 1870 the bell tower of Michaels Church was still thatched, the Mairie- École was built in 1903, the bridge in the hamlet of Gommerans in 1905. In 1988 there were still 9 farms.

heraldry

The municipality of Le Tartre uses the coat of arms that goes back to Antoine-Joseph du Tartre de Laubespin . The coat of arms is still visible above the front door of the church. Since the du Tartre family has not yet died out, the municipality has to distinguish its coat of arms from the family coat of arms. Blazon of the family coat of arms: In blue, two barbel turned away in silver, accompanied by four silver crosses, one in the middle main section, two in the flanks and one in the base of the coat of arms. The blazon was changed for the municipal coat of arms so that the crosses are shown in gold.
