history

The air rescue center (LRZ) at the Northwest Hospital was put into operation on November 15, 1979 by SOS Air Rescue , initially an Alouette III was in use, which was replaced in 1982 by a Bell 206 Long Ranger. After the company's insolvency, the ADAC took over the station on February 1, 1983. From this point on, a BO 105 was in use, but this type was replaced by a BK 117 as early as 1985 , which was decommissioned in December 2015 after 30 years. In 1985 the landing site was expanded to include a hangar and its own gas station, and later Sanderbusch became the first German air rescue center to operate at night .

On April 4, 2016, the Airbus Helicopters H 145 rescue helicopter, which has been in use since January 2016, was officially presented.

Rescue center

The LRZ is of particular importance for the medical care of the East Frisian Islands . This earned him the nickname "Islandhopper" ( island hopper ). The alarm is issued via the Friesland / Wilhelmshaven rescue control center or the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center Bremen .
