Christoph 45 is a rescue helicopter from the German Air Rescue Service , which is stationed in Friedrichshafen , Baden-Württemberg .
The location has been in operation since October 1980 and is located at the Friedrichshafen Clinic on the north-western outskirts of the city. It represents the southernmost location of the German Air Rescue Service.
history
The first helicopter was put into service on October 20, 1980. A Bo 105 was in service until April 2009 . By April 2008, the helicopter had flown 21,000 sorties. The Bo 105 was replaced by a Eurocopter EC 135 . An EC135 T3H (H135) has been in use since May 2018.

The crew of the Eurocopter EC 135 consists of a pilot , an emergency doctor and an air rescue assistant . Three pilots and paramedics from the German Air Rescue Service are employed at the site. In addition, 23 emergency doctors are available, most of whom are provided by the Friedrichshafen Clinic. A lifeguard can be taken on board if necessary .

The operational area of the Christoph 45 encompasses the districts Bodenseekreis , Konstanz , Tuttlingen , Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis , Sigmaringen , Ravensburg , Biberach , Günzburg and Kempten (Allgäu) , whose rescue control centers request the helicopter. The helicopter is also used in Austria in the Vorarlberg control center area .
Types of use
In addition to emergency rescue missions , the Christoph flies 45 transfer flights . Due to the proximity to the Alps and Lake Constance , special types of use arise. In cooperation with the water rescue organizations , people in need are searched for and rescued in the area of the large body of water. In addition to the lifeguard, Christoph 45 also has a life raft with him in this case . Man and the raft can be deposited directly above the water surface.
