Christoph 10 is the call sign for a rescue helicopter of the ADAC Luftrettung non-profit organization, which is stationed at the St. Elisabeth Hospital in Wittlich (Verbundkrankenhaus Bernkastel / Wittlich ).
history
The rescue helicopter Christoph 10 at the Wittlich site was put into service on October 22, 1975. A yellow BO 105 was used as the first machine . The Federal Ministry of the Interior was responsible for carrying it out ; the pilots were provided by the Federal Border Police. Only a few months later, on April 29, 1976, Army aviators from Fritzlar took over the location. A green Bell UH-1D was used . At the beginning of September 1979 the Federal Ministry of the Interior got the site back from the Bundeswehr, and the pilots were again provided by the Federal Border Police. A BO 105 was used again, which was exchanged for a Bell UH-1D in 1984 (today in the Hermeskeil Aircraft Museum ).
In January 1997 ADAC Luftrettung GmbH took over the location. The first ADAC EC 135 was used here . The ADAC still uses machines of this type at the site today. In 2011 and 2012, the air rescue center was renovated and expanded.
It has flown over 45,000 sorties since it went into service in 1975. Today the Christoph 10 is one of the most frequented rescue helicopters in the whole of Germany with around 2000 missions a year.
At the end of October 2015, the station received a new H 135 (EC135 P3) as a master machine. Registration: D-HXBC
