Christoph 16 is the name of the Saarland rescue helicopter that is stationed at the Winterberg Clinic in Saarbrücken .
history
Until June 30, 1996, the station was run by the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) and the Saarbrücken professional fire brigade with a Bölkow Bo 105 machine . On July 1, 1996, the ADAC took over the station in cooperation with the DRK Saarland, also with a Bo 105. A Eurocopter EC 135 machine has been flown since 1999 .

Like most German rescue helicopters, the crew of Christoph 16 consists of three people:
- Pilot (flies and looks after the helicopter during use)
- Emergency doctor (takes care of the medical care of the patients)
- HEMS Technical Crew Member ( emergency paramedic )
The ADAC employs 3 pilots at the Saarbrücken air rescue station. The medical appointments are made by doctors from the Saarbrücken Clinic . The DRK Saarland provides the emergency paramedics who work as HEMS Technical Crew Members .

operation area
Operations are mainly flown in Saarland , but also in parts of Rhineland-Palatinate and Luxembourg . Use in France is also legally possible, but is not claimed by the responsible French authorities.
Incidents
So far there have been only a few incidents. These include, for example, an engine dismantling with the destruction of the second engine during the take-off process at a deployment site with the BMI machine and a flight into an overhead line when approaching an emergency location with the Bo 105 of the ADAC.
