The Saarbrücken fire brigade is part of the office for fire and civil protection of the state capital Saarbrücken . It is divided into a professional fire brigade and a voluntary fire brigade , which perform a wide range of tasks and which have almost 1,000 emergency services.

Professional fire brigade

The professional fire brigade with its 200 officers is spread over two guards in the Saarbrücken city area. The locations of the guards are chosen in such a way that every point in the city can be reached within eight minutes, in the downtown area in five minutes. The districts of the voluntary fire brigade are also assigned to the deployment areas of the professional fire brigade.

After the city of Saarbrücken was founded in 1909 from the amalgamation of the three cities of Saarbrücken, St. Johann and Malstatt-Burbach, the idea of establishing a professional fire brigade soon arose. On June 6, 1911, the permanently manned guard went into operation. She was initially in a dragoon stable. From 1915 a motorized sprayer was used. In 1918 a secondary guard was opened in Waldstrasse. In 1924 the professional fire brigade received its first passenger car. In 1944 the accommodation of the professional fire brigade was destroyed; from 1945 the professional fire brigade was in the new fire station .

Fire station 1

Fire station 1

Fire station 1, which opened in 1981, houses the fire engine, the rescue service, various special vehicles and workshops as well as the main operations center (HEZ). The HEZ is the fire brigade control center for the approximately 330,000 residents of the city of Saarbrücken and the regional association. In these circles, she is responsible for alerting and commanding the fire brigades, as the reporting head of the lower disaster control authorities and other diverse tasks for security. The fire brigade of fire station 1 consists of a command vehicle 1 (ELW 1) , an emergency fire engine , a turntable ladder (DLK 23-12 nB) and a tank fire engine ( TLF 24/50 ).

In the event of an emergency call, the main operations center (HEZ) alerts the fire brigade units specified in the alarm and deployment order. In addition to the two fire brigades of the professional fire brigade, to which guard districts are assigned, volunteer fire brigades are also alerted depending on the size of the operation and location. In the outskirts, the volunteers generally move out directly or take on assignments independently.

In addition to fire-fighting vehicles, the station has three ambulances, two of which are manned around the clock, the 1133 ambulance drives on weekdays in a 12-hour shift and its crew manned the intensive care vehicle (ITW) at the same time . An ambulance was also stationed at Wache 1 until November 2019. The emergency medical service vehicle (NEF) 1121 is subordinate to Guard 1, but it is stationed at the Saarbrücken Clinic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is manned by doctors from the Winterberg Clinic.

Fire station 2

Fire station 2, which opened in 1966, is located in the Burbach district. In addition to the fire fighting train ( HLF20 , DL (A) K - 23-12 , TLF24 / 50 ) and the rescue service ( RTW 1132) as well as some special vehicles ( GW animal, GW workshop, GW SRHT ), it houses a 10 m deep diving training pool and some workshops (hose workshop, medical rooms). The state fire brigade school of the Saarland is located in the immediate vicinity of fire station 2 .

particularities

In addition to the conventional tasks of fire fighting and technical assistance, the professional fire brigade also handles special missions. It also has special units for environmental protection , height rescue and water rescue . In addition, the fire brigade is also active in emergency rescue and intensive care transport.

On the fire station 1 there is an equipment car oil GW oil , which is used to fight oil traces. In addition to the Saarbrücken urban area, the vehicle is also used across the Saarland on motorways and country roads on the basis of an agreement with the Saarland Road Administration.

There is also an intensive care vehicle (ITW) at fire station 1, which is responsible throughout the Saarland for the transport of intensive care patients who require ventilation and / or treatment with medication via perfusors (e.g. catecholamines ).

Especially for operations in connection with animals, an animal equipment vehicle is stationed at fire station 2, which moves out in the city area for animal emergencies.

Volunteer firefighter

The volunteer fire brigade is set up in each of the Saarbrücken districts. It includes around 750 emergency workers, including many women. The Saarbrücken volunteer fire brigade is divided into 17 extinguishing districts (LB), which are numbered from 11 to 27. The extinguishing districts are grouped into three extinguishing sections - east, middle, west. An exception is the fire fighting district 18 (Dudweiler). For historical reasons, it does not belong to any of the three extinguishing sections with its three fire stations . The volunteer fire brigades are alerted to operations in their districts, and depending on the situation, they are supported by the professional fire brigade. The four extinguishing districts of the core city (inner city) maintain a readiness for parallel operations if the two professional fire brigade stations are bound during operations.

Vehicle concept

The vehicle concept of the Saarbrücken fire brigade is based on the risk potential in the individual city districts and thus in the extinguishing districts.

The professional fire brigade has the usual vehicle fleet of a modern city fire brigade. The vehicles for daily hazard prevention are supplemented by various roll-off containers for extensive and large-scale operations in technical assistance, fire protection , in the area of hazardous substances and in the area of operations management .

For extinguishing areas with an average risk potential, a LF 10/6 and an MTF or, depending on the choice of the extinguishing area, a GW-M are provided. The GW-M ("Equipment Car Team") is a vehicle with a cabin for the crew and a flatbed structure for equipment. LHF is provided in extinguishing areas with an increased risk potential .

Other special vehicles are stationed in fire fighting districts with base functions, which take on one of the following special tasks:

  • lighting
  • decontamination
  • Logistics and supply
  • Mass casualty
  • Technical operations management
  • technical help
  • Fighting forest fires
  • Warn and measure
  • Water supply
