The Saarbrücken Clinic , managed in the legal form of a non-profit GmbH , is a municipal clinic in the Saarland capital of Saarbrücken. The city of Saarbrücken is the partner of the clinic. It is the academic teaching hospital of the medical faculty of the Saarland University .
history
The history of the hospital goes back to the year 1424, when a citizen of Saarbrücken bequeathed his "house equipped with beds and household items as a hospital for citizens and poor people" to the city. In 1968 the current location on the Winterberg in the Sankt Arnual district was moved.
location
The clinic is located on the left bank of the Saar on the Winterberg belonging to the St. Arnual district , which is located between the St. Arnual and Alt-Saarbrücken districts. The Winterberg is a hill about 300 meters above sea level in the south of Saarbrücken. Due to the altitude of the Winterberg and the striking 110-meter-long and 40-meter-high ward block, the hospital is also a striking landmark.
Colloquially in Saarbrücken, the term “Klinikum Saarbrücken” is often not used, but only “Winterberg” (eg “I was operated on on the Winterberg”).

There is also a forensic medicine institute.
Other facilities
The air rescue station of the rescue helicopter Christoph 16 , which is operated by ADAC air rescue , is located on the clinic area, but legally separate from it. The air rescue station shares the building with the control center for fire brigade and rescue service alarms ( "Leitstelle Winterberg" ), which is responsible for the entire Saarland and is operated by the Association for Rescue Service and Fire Brigade Alerting Saar .

With 572 hospital beds and 16 specialist departments, the municipal hospital in Saarbrücken is one of the maximum providers in southwest Germany as well as in neighboring France and Luxembourg. Initial and continuing education
The Saarbrücken Clinic has its own school for health professions. It offers 240 trainees and students a training position. Nursing specialists, health and pediatric nurses and surgical assistants (OTA) are trained here; In addition, specialist training in intensive care and anesthesia is possible. From 2020, generalist training as a nurse will be offered.
There are collaborations with other hospitals in Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate for training to become surgical technicians. In addition, a dual study of nursing (Bachelor of Science) is possible in cooperation with the University of Technology and Economics (HTW) of the Saarland. The dual study of business administration health management (Bachelor of Arts) is implemented in cooperation with the Baden-Württemberg dual university in Mannheim (dhbw).
In addition, training is offered in the following professions: dental assistants, medical assistants, salespeople in health care, specialists for warehouse logistics, IT specialists for system integration.

In order to fulfill its tasks, the Saarbrücken Clinic operates several subsidiaries, partly together with partners, including the Saar-Pfalz Blood Donation Center (together with the West Palatinate Clinic Kaiserslautern ) and the Saar Rescue Service School (together with the Saar Regional Association of the DRK ).
