The Westpfalz-Klinikum GmbH is a supporting organization for the hospitals in Kaiserslautern , Kirchheimbolanden , Kusel , Rockenhausen and other subsidiaries based in Kaiserslautern.

Today's Westpfalz-Klinikum GmbH goes back to the "Kaiserslautern District Hospital" founded in 1893, which was supported by the Kaiserslautern district community; the district parish was a municipal association that included parts of what is now the district. In 1924 the hospital became the responsibility of the city of Kaiserslautern; since 1990 it has been called the "Klinikum der Universitätsstadt Kaiserslautern".

In 1996, through the merger of the clinic with the Kusel / Evangelical Hospital district hospital, the "Westpfalz-Klinikum GmbH" was founded to support the above-mentioned hospitals; Partners were the city of Kaiserslautern and the district of Kusel .

In 2002 the "Westpfalz-Klinikum GmbH" merged with the Donnersbergkreis-Krankenhaus GmbH. The Westpfalz-Klinikum GmbH today maintains four hospitals at the locations Kaiserslautern, Kirchheimbolanden, Kusel and Rockenhausen; a total of over 1300 beds are currently available in 26 specialist clinics. Since the merger in 2002, the Donnersbergkreis has also been added as a sponsor. The clinic is the academic teaching hospital of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and is the largest non-university health center in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The Kaiserslautern and Kusel locations form a maximum care hospital ( care level ) within Westpfalz-Klinikum GmbH . The Kirchheimbolanden and Rockenhausen locations form a standard care hospital . At the Kaiserslautern location, a branch of the blood donation center Saar-Pfalz gGmbH is housed in building 18 .

Shortly before the 2006 World Cup , a helicopter landing pad was set up above the roofs of the main building , which saves trips to and from the landing site of the municipal fire brigade (1.3 km away) and replaces the landing site there from 2009, as it will no longer meet the standards corresponded.
