Christoph 8 is a rescue helicopter stationed at St. Marien Hospital in Lünen , which was put into service on December 23, 1974.

history

Since there was not enough money to build an air rescue station and buy a helicopter in the mid-1970s , the ADAC headquarters started a publicity campaign with a fundraising campaign by selling the record Stars sing for Christoph 8 . The donated 1.3 million Deutschmarks were handed over to the then incumbent Federal Minister of the Interior, Hans-Dietrich Genscher , at the ADAC spring congress in 1974 .

On December 23, 1974, the Christoph 8 site was officially opened and put into service. At that time, the control center of the Lünen fire brigade was responsible for the alarm. In 1978 this was taken over by the rescue control center of the Unna district. The first pilots were from the Federal Border Guard Fliegerstaffel West, Sankt Augustin (until September 30, 1975). The doctors are now provided by the Clinic for Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the Lünen St.-Marien Hospital. Only doctors experienced in emergency medicine in anesthesiology are used. The three emergency paramedics / HEMS TC are all employed by ADAC Luftrettung gGmbH. They too have many years of experience.

From mid-1975 to 1978, the Faßberg Transport Regiment (Lüneburg Heath) of the German Armed Forces ensured air rescue with a Bell UH-1D . After that, pilots of the Federal Border Police / Federal Police with a BO 105 were used again. The station has been operated by ADAC-Luftrettung gGmbH since April 1, 2005, and the BO 105 has been replaced by a Eurocopter EC 135.
