Christoph 40 is a civil rescue helicopter in Augsburg , which was put into service on January 28, 2014. The helicopter is stationed on Germany's highest air rescue platform at a height of 58 meters on the roof of the Augsburg University Hospital .

history

After a planning phase lasting several years, in which, in addition to Augsburg, Donauwörth was also under discussion as the location of a new rescue helicopter, the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior for Construction and Transport decided on April 1, 2011, against the resistance of the health insurances, to build an air rescue station on the roof of the Augsburg clinic. Construction work began in spring 2013, and the clinic paid the construction costs of 5.9 million euros. ADAC Luftrettung GmbH invested 5.5 million euros in purchasing the new rescue helicopter.

Since the final completion in spring 2014, Augsburg has Germany's highest air rescue station on one building. At a height of 58 meters, there is a 1,300 square meter landing platform with space for two rescue helicopters, a hangar and a refueling system. The total weight of the superstructures on the roof of the university hospital is around 450 tons. On January 28, 2014 Christoph 40 flew his first mission in Mödishofen, a district of Ustersbach .
