Air rescue
The air rescue is the use of life preservers on the airway in emergency medicine. Air rescue is used when the situation calls for quicker action than is possible with ground-based rescue services . This mostly occurs in rural areas, where a rescue helicopter is usually used; but it flies z. B. in Australia in the outback the Flying Doctor Service emergency and regular medical operations with airplanes.
Air rescue in Germany
The Federal Republic of Germany has an almost nationwide air rescue system, which was created over 30 years as a supplement to the ground-based rescue and emergency doctor service. It has been shown to be extremely effective. The high status is undisputed today. In Germany, the rescue service is a matter for the federal states and is therefore regulated by state rescue service laws. To carry out air rescue, the countries fall back on different organizations.
There are currently 89 rescue helicopter stations in Germany. Most of them are involved in primary air rescue. This means that they are mainly used both as a fast emergency doctor shuttle and as a replacement for an emergency doctor's vehicle, but can also carry out patient transports if, for example, a specialist clinic further away has to be flown to or if an ambulance is not available. The intensive transport helicopters and other helicopters, such as those of the SAR service of the German Armed Forces , do not have primary air rescue as an official priority, but can usually also be used if necessary.

Air rescue in Austria
The backbone of Austrian air rescue is formed by the Christophorus Air Rescue Association, in which the ÖAMTC and the Red Cross are involved.
Through its subsidiary Heliair , which operates 24 EC 135s , the ÖAMTC has the largest civilian fleet of this type of helicopter in Europe and also lends five devices to the Hungarian air rescue service OMSZ . In addition, locations are operated by private companies on behalf of the federal states. There are also temporary locations during the ski season.
Air rescue in Switzerland
In Switzerland , rescue helicopters are mostly operated by the Swiss Air Rescue Service ( Rega for short ), a non-profit private foundation for air rescue or its partner companies. Rega and its partners can be requested in Switzerland by calling the alarm number 1414. The REGA is alerted via the respective rescue control centers for operations in southern Germany .
Rega operates twelve air rescue stations and one air rescue station in Meyrin near Geneva with a partner. The locations are described in the article about Rega . The canton of Valais is an exception, where Air Zermatt and Air-Glaciers are responsible for air rescue. In the canton of Aargau , Alpine Air Ambulance AG (AAA) operates a rescue helicopter in Birrfeld, which is dispatched by the Aargau medical emergency number in Aarau .
The first alpine air rescue took place in November 1946 on the Gauli Glacier .
Air rescue in Liechtenstein
Since December 2018, AP³ Luftrettung GmbH, based in Filderstadt ( Germany ) at the Balzers heliport in Liechtenstein , has been operating the rescue helicopter with the nickname Christoph Liechtenstein . The flight operations are carried out by AAA Alpine Air Ambulance AG based in Wollerau ( Switzerland ) with an Airbus Helicopters EC 135 helicopter . The AP³ Luftrettung is a joint venture of the DRF Foundation Luftrettung non-profit AG (DRF Luftrettung) from Germany with the ARA Flugrettung non-profit GmbH from Austria and the AAA Alpine Air Ambulance AG from Switzerland.

Air rescue in Denmark
The Danish health authority Sundhedsstyrelsen only operates Airbus Helicopters EC 135 helicopters at its four bases .

Air ambulance in Hungary
The Hungarian air rescue OMSZ has five bases that are equipped with EC 135 . Two more and a base that will only be occupied in summer are planned. Both the planning and the training of the 80 emergency doctors was carried out by the Austrian Christophorus Air Rescue Association . The aircraft has also been chartered from Heliair.
