The Billund Airport ( IATA : BLL , ICAO : EKBI ), officially Billund Lufthavn , marketing Name Billund Airport - verden direct lies about two kilometers northeast of Billund in the middle of Jutland . With 3.5 million passengers in 2018, it is the second largest airport in Denmark .
location
After Vejle , the regional capital of Region South Denmark it is 30 kilometers to Copenhagen 251 km. The Lego plants and the Legoland amusement park are in the immediate vicinity.
history
The airport opened in 1964.
In 2002 the new passenger terminal with a capacity of 3.5 million passengers per year went into operation.
By 2020 the airport is to be connected to the Danish railway network with the new Jelling – Billund line.
Airlines and Destinations
Sun Air of Scandinavia , which has been operating under the British Airways brand name under a franchise agreement since 1996 , is based in Billund. In December 2011 the low-cost airline Ryanair announced that it would open a base in Billund and initially station two Boeing 737-800s here.
56 destinations can be reached directly from Billund. In German-speaking countries there are connections to Frankfurt with Lufthansa , Düsseldorf with Sun Air of Scandinavia and to Berlin-Schönefeld with Ryanair and Vienna with Wizz Air .
