Christoph 43 is the rescue helicopter of the DRF Luftrettung stationed in Baden-Airpark in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The Karlsruhe air rescue base was founded on September 17, 1975. Flight operations were initially carried out from the Karlsruhe-Forchheim airfield before moving to the St. Vincentius clinics in April 1976 . Until the hangar was completed, the aircraft continued to be flown to the Karlsruhe-Forchheim airfield to rest for the night. Construction of the hangar was completed on June 10, 1987, almost eleven years after Christoph 43 was commissioned.

The Bo 105 , which had been flown in Karlsruhe for a long time , was replaced by the modern Eurocopter EC 135 in June 2007 . Towards the end of 2008, Christoph 43 flew his 36,000. Use since commissioning.

While the pilots and HEMS technical crew members are provided by DRF Luftrettung, anesthetists from the St. Vincentius Clinics fly with them as emergency doctors.

Due to construction work at the St. Vincentius-Kliniken Karlsruhe, the helicopter was relocated to Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden Airport in 2016. The helicopter is expected to be able to return to its old location in mid-2019.

Incidents

  • October 20, 1977 - When a helicopter is being transferred to the Karlsruhe-Forchheim airfield, it gets caught in a high-voltage line when approaching in adverse weather conditions (fog), and all three crew members lose their lives.

operation area

The Karlsruhe rescue helicopter is dispatched by the integrated control center in Mittelbaden in Rastatt and can be requested from the surrounding control centers such as Ludwigshafen am Rhein , Heilbronn , Rhein-Neckar, Mittelbaden and southern Palatinate. The operational area thus extends from the northern Black Forest to the Electoral Palatinate .
