SAR 64

SAR 64 is the name of a search and rescue helicopter of the German Armed Forces , which is stationed at the Niederstetten military airfield in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The aircraft of the type Bell UH-1D was put into service as SAR 58 at Landsberg / Lech Air Base in Bavaria as early as 1960 . Until 2013 it was used by the LTG 61 of the Air Force based there, since then the army has been responsible for operations . At the end of 2016, the helicopter, together with the SAR 56, which was also stationed in Landsberg, was relocated to the 30th Transport Helicopter Regiment in Niederstetten and renamed SAR 64.

tasks

The weight-reduced machine with minimal equipment is used for mountain rescue (more power through less weight). The operations are coordinated by the RCC SAR control center in Münster .

Crew and equipment

The crew of the helicopter includes two pilots (previously a pilot and an on-board attendant) and an air rescue master ( paramedic / paramedic ). An emergency doctor is not part of the permanent crew and is only brought on board if necessary. The helicopter is equipped with a winch .
