Christoph 22 is a rescue helicopter (RTH) that helps to ensure emergency medical care as part of the civil-military cooperation between the Bundeswehr and ADAC . The helicopter is stationed at the Bundeswehr hospital in Ulm . Its area of application is the Ulm / Neu-Ulm region, the Swabian Alb , as well as parts of Upper Swabia and Bavarian Swabia . The operational radius is around 50 to 75 km.
On May 23, 2015, the original MBB / Kawasaki BK 117 master machine with the identification D-HBND, which had been in service for 12 years, was decommissioned and made ready for transport to New Zealand . Until the arrival of the successor, an Airbus Helicopters H145 , originally planned for the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017 , a BK 117 with the identification D-HLIR was flying in Ulm. At the beginning of December 2017, the BK 117 was replaced by the new H145 machine. The official commissioning of the new H145 master machine with the identifier D-HYAL took place on May 28, 2018.
