Christoph 34 is the radio call name of the rescue helicopter stationed at the KMG Klinikum Güstrow . It is operated by the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs and used for air rescue in the districts of Rostock , Ludwigslust-Parchim and Northwest Mecklenburg as well as in the independent cities of Schwerin and Rostock .

Station, use and occupation

The helicopter is stationed in the air rescue center at the KMG Klinikum Güstrow and is alerted by the integrated control center in the center of the Rostock district for rescue operations with an emergency doctor indication if an emergency doctor vehicle (NEF) is not available in time or the type of emergency makes it necessary to transport a patient by helicopter .

During its missions, the rescue helicopter Christoph 34 is manned by a pilot from the Blumberg Federal Police Air Squadron, until 2006 with a pilot from the Fuhlendorf Federal Police Air Squadron, an emergency doctor from the KMG Klinikum Güstrow and a rescue assistant from the DRK district association Güstrow. The paramedics are part of the helicopter crew ( HEMS Crew Member ) and support the pilot in the areas of communication and navigation, while the emergency doctor is legally a passenger .

history

Christoph 34 entered service on November 16, 1992. Since then, the operator has been the Federal Ministry of the Interior, and since 2018 the Federal Ministry of the Interior, for Construction and Home

Initially, a Bell 212 was used as an aircraft. This was replaced on January 12, 2006 by a Bölkow Bo 105 machine , as the Bell 212 previously used was required as a result of the takeover of the SAR 71 (now Christoph 29 ) by the Federal Police at the Hamburg-Wandsbek location . The newly deployed Bölkow Bo 105 had previously been used at the Dresden site , but was abandoned by the Federal Police Fliegerstaffel Ost at the beginning of 2006. Simultaneously with the change to Bölkow Bo 105, the Federal Police Fliegerstaffel Blumberg took over the flight operations previously carried out by the Federal Police Fliegerstaffel Fuhlendorf in Güstrow.

On November 15, 2007 there was another change of aircraft. A Eurocopter EC 135 has been in use since then.

On June 26, 2014, the tail rotor of the machine was besieged by a swarm of bees during a mission in Dierhagen , which was attracted by the orange color of the helicopter. This delayed the rescue operation.

Others

The name Christoph goes back to St. Christopher , the patron saint of travelers. After him, all German rescue helicopters have the BOS radio call name Christoph , followed by a number for rescue helicopters and a description of the location for intensive care transport helicopters.
