The Bell 212 is a multi-purpose helicopter from Bell Helicopter Textron Inc., the military version of which is also called Twin-Huey and is used as an on- board helicopter .
history
The Bell 212 builds on the proven technical helicopter type of the Bell UH-1 D in essential aspects . This had proven particularly useful in air rescue , among other things . After a test sample with a version called the Model 208 "Twin Delta", the model was further developed into the 212. The helicopter's maiden flight took place in April 1969 and series delivery began in 1971. From 1988 Bell relocated production to Canada . The military variant of the Bell 212 was named UH-1N Iroquois or, alternatively, Twin Huey .
The helicopter is used in particular by government agencies for tasks such as air rescue and police missions. For example, the Bell 212 (which was manufactured as AB 212 under license by the Agusta company in Italy ) has been in use for a long time as a medium-sized transport helicopter for various tasks in the Austrian armed forces. Agusta also produced a special anti-submarine version of the helicopter. The German Federal Border Police and its successor organization, the Federal Police and the German Federal Ministry of the Interior are other institutions that use Bell 212 helicopters. The helicopter is in use in more than 30 countries. Since 1979 there has been a further development with the four-blade rotor, the Bell 412 .

Like the UH-1D, the Bell 212 is produced with a two-blade rotor; In contrast to the Bell UH-1D, however, the tail rotor is mounted on the right-hand side of the tail boom, although the main rotor turns to the left. Unlike the UH-1, which has only one turbine, the Bell 212 has two engines, which offer noticeably increased power reserves. According to the German Federal Police , the maximum speed and cruising speed of the Bell 212 have remained the same compared to the Bell UH-1D. The versions suitable for night flight are equipped with a radar system in the bow.

Ship-based submarine hunter variant, which is manufactured by Agusta under license. Among other things, it is equipped with a marine radar above the cockpit and under the fuselage, an EKF system and a Bendix ASQ-18 dip sonar device. In order to be able to carry heavier weapons, the structure has been reinforced for a load of 5080 kg. For use from ships, hooks for lashing were attached on board and the entire surface structure was treated against corrosion.
