Troop service (spelling: TRUPPENDIENST) is the official specialist magazine of the Austrian Armed Forces for training, leadership and deployment. The first edition appeared in 1962. The editorial team consists mainly of professional officers and NCOs of the armed forces with many years of experience within the troops. Every editor takes part in missions at home and abroad and has civil journalism and military training.

The Troop Service editorial team sees itself as a mission-oriented service company "from the troops for the troops" that is committed to journalistic ethics, which means in particular:

  • Separating facts and opinions,
  • truthful and balanced reporting,
  • Non-partisanship.

Jörg Aschenbrenner has been editor-in-chief since 2003.

Basic orientation

In the troop service operations, leadership and training matters of all branches of the Austrian Armed Forces, security-political and military-historical matters are dealt with. The focus is on the technical and tactical management level.

This is intended to increase the military or operational general knowledge of all cadre members of the presence, militia and reserve levels, taking into account information about the strategic environment of Austria, and to increase the practical and theoretical knowledge, especially of those officers, NCOs and batches who are involved in troop training, the Preparing for operations and working in operations.

The magazine appears four times a year, the media owner is the Federal Minister for National Defense, the publisher is the Federal Ministry for National Defense .

Expansion of the offer

Since March 16, 2016, the Truppendienst magazine has been published in a contemporary layout and the Truppendienst-Online website is operated.

The magazine appears four times a year. The website www.truppendienst.com offers cross-media reporting together with the print product in addition to the editorial articles

  • Current military news from home and abroad,
  • additional articles on military topics
  • an interactive map of all current operations of the armed forces
  • detailed information on the world's armed forces
  • a subscription option for current topics via newsletter and much more

Troop service online is also a forum for the free expression of opinion on the affairs of the Austrian Armed Forces and national defense and thus contributes to the deepening of the solidarity of all soldiers. Troop service is also active on social media such as Facebook. A range of information going beyond the magazine, in which selected military topics are dealt with in more detail, is provided by the

International cooperation

Troop service has correspondents in various regions around the world who provide quick, first-hand information on military issues. The Troop Service editorial team is a member of the European Military Journalist Association (EMPA).
