Multipurpose helicopter
Multipurpose helicopters are helicopters that have not been developed exclusively for one function and can be used for various tasks either directly or by retrofitting. In addition to the air transport of infantry directly and through configuration, military helicopters fulfill at least one other function: reconnaissance , battlefield monitoring, command & control (CNC) , electronic warfare , combat search and rescue , rescue of the wounded / MedEvac , joint tactical fire support , close air support or anti-tank defense .
Military multipurpose helicopters are predominantly operated by armed forces , for which the development and procurement of special combat , transport and reconnaissance helicopters is either not necessary or can be financed. Due to their range of tasks close to the battlefield, multipurpose helicopters are mostly assigned to the army aviators .
Because of their conceptual versatility, military helicopters are often sold in a demilitarized, civilian version. In the civil sector, helicopters are used for a wide variety of areas such as traffic monitoring , patient transport , crane flight and agricultural purposes .
terminology
In the English-speaking world, multi-purpose helicopters are known as utility helicopters [ ju: ˈtɪləti ˈhelɪkɒptəʳ ] (also: Multi-Purpose Helicopter MPH or Multi-Role Helicopter MRH ) and are abbreviated with the acronym UH. Light multi-purpose helicopters with a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of less than 3,500 kg are identified as light utility helicopters with LUH. The term multi- purpose helicopter is also used synonymously with the term multi-purpose helicopter . The French armed forces use the designation "hélicoptère de manœuvre" ( German maneuver helicopter ). The NATO defines a utility helicopter according to the Allied Administrative Publication (AAP-6):
"A multi-purpose helicopter capable of lifting troops but may be used in command and control, logistics, casualty evacuation or armed helicopter role."
"A versatile helicopter with the ability to move troops, but which can also be used in the role of a command post, for logistics, for the rescue of the wounded and as an armed helicopter."
