The multipurpose helicopter Airbus Helicopters H175 (formerly Eurocopter EC175 ) is a joint development of the European group of companies Airbus Helicopters (formerly Eurocopter) and the Chinese Harbin Aviation Industry Group , the Chinese name is HAI Z-15 . The helicopter was designed with a view to the future range of operations - primarily flights over the open sea - and is therefore particularly tailored to the requirements of passenger transport in the oil and gas industry on oil platforms as well as search and rescue flights .

history

The development officially started in December 2005 during a visit by the Chinese Prime Minister to France, whereby corresponding agreements were reached during a visit by the French President in 2004. The construction was completed at the end of 2007 and a model was presented to the public in early 2008. 114 orders have been received so far. The first of the fuselage structures to be manufactured at Harbin Aviation Industries in China was completed on November 15, 2008, with final assembly taking place at Eurocopter in France.

The first flight took place on December 4, 2009 with the registration number F-WWPB , with the last two letters “PB” standing for the test pilot Patrick Bremond. The official premiere and the first public flight followed on December 17, 2009 at the Eurocopter plant in Marignane, France . The European EASA approval (according to CS-29 ) is planned for 2013 and delivery for the end of 2013. The 45-minute test flight of a second prototype was on December 18, 2010. The first EC175 (F-WMXB) of the series version had its first flight in the first week of December 2012, while delivery to the first customers took place at the end of 2013. In March 2015, the designation was changed from EC175 to the new, group-wide numbering H175.

In the early summer of 2019, cracks formed on the tail boom and rear wing of two machines. Airbus published a warning and reduced the maximum permissible speed of the machines until the cause was further clarified.

technology

The model is in the 7-tonne weight class between the AS365 Dauphin or H155 and the AS332 / EC225 Super Puma . The H175 can accommodate up to 16 passengers with five rows of seats. It is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PT6C-67E shaft turbines with fully automatic digital engine power control. It has a five-bladed Spheriflex main rotor and a conventional three-bladed tail rotor. The maximum speed is around 280 km / h and the range is around 750 km. In addition to the four underfloor tanks with a total capacity of around 2000 liters, two 250-liter additional tanks can optionally be installed. The helicopter has a "Helionix" glass cockpit developed by Eurocopter with four 15 × 20 cm screens and an automatic four-axis flight control system. For safety, it is equipped with inflatable floats , which should keep it buoyant in an emergency up to a swell of strength 6 . In addition, the eight large windows can be blown out in an emergency for evacuation and the main gearbox works for at least 30 minutes even if there is a complete loss of oil. As a further special feature, the left engine can be decoupled and used on the ground as an auxiliary engine (APU).

Further equipment features include life rafts, a helicopter terrain information and warning system (HTAWS), a usage and condition monitoring system (HUMS), a cable winch for cargo and a high-performance air conditioning system.
