The Airbus Helicopters H145M is a helicopter from the European manufacturer Airbus Helicopters (formerly Eurocopter ). It is the military version of the Airbus H145 helicopter .

history

The military version is only slightly changed compared to the civilian model and therefore does not have to be completely re-registered. Since the H145M can be serviced and repaired according to civil regulations, the effort and costs of maintenance are reduced. This was also a reason why EADS / Eurocopter in the tender for a light multi-purpose helicopter of the United States Army (English Light Utility Helicopter (LUH)) applied. From this the name UH-145 developed.

EADS prepared the time still under the name EC 645 known helicopter as Armed Scout 645 - currently the Armed Aerial Scout 72X referred - in 2009 for the competition to the next light armed reconnaissance helicopter (ger .: Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH)) of the US - Forces ahead. The helicopter was equipped with weapon carriers from the side, system partner Lockheed-Martin offers a night vision-capable target location and identification system M-TADS / PVNS, the video and communication system VUIT-2 as well as Hellfire missiles for integration. Revolver cannons can also be attached. The Armed Scout 645 received an optical FLIR vision system under the "helicopter nose". Night missions can also be flown as the EC 145 / BK 117C-2 is also approved for use with night vision devices.

On July 11, 2013, the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) and Eurocopter signed a contract for the procurement of 15 light helicopters of the type EC645 T2 for the Special Forces Command (KSK). On May 8, 2015, the helicopter, now known as the H145M , was approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). After extensive ground and flight tests at the manufacturer Airbus Helicopters in Donauwörth and at the Wehrtechnische Dienststelle 61 (WTD 61) in Manching , where u. a. The emergency ditching system, the rescue winch, the abseiling devices, the camera system and the electronic self-protection system were checked, followed by the military type certification by the Luftfahrtamt der Bundeswehr (LufABw) on October 29, 2015. On December 8, 2015 the handover of the first two Airbus aircraft took place Helicopters at the helicopter squadron 64 (HSG 64) in Laupheim . The procurement contract between the BMVg and Airbus Helicopters stipulates that the company staff will be gradually replaced by the aircraft technical staff of HSG 64 after the first operation has been ensured.

The total volume of the procurement amounts to 194 million euros and, in addition to the helicopters, also provides the corresponding equipment for the requirements of the KSK. The remaining of the 15 machines were put into service by June 2017.

UH-72A Lakota of the United States Army

The European defense and armaments manufacturer EADS equips the armed forces of the United States with the EC 145, which has received the designation UH-145. In 2006, the UH-145 won the United States Army's tender for a new light, multi -role helicopter to replace the UH-1H  Huey (Bell 205) . The EADS subsidiary Eurocopter then set up a new production and assembly line for the UH-72A Lakota (official name of the US Army) at its American plant in Columbus, Mississippi . The UH-72 is primarily used for air rescue and disaster operations as well as for other sovereign tasks, including with the airborne units of the US National Guard and the US Army. Initially, 322 copies were ordered, which will be built under the leadership of American Eurocopter in collaboration with Sikorsky . The first three machines in the program were manufactured in Germany and assembled in the United States until the production line was fully expanded in August 2007.

Five training helicopters of this type destined for the United States Navy are designated as H-72A . They will be stationed at the United States Naval Test Pilot School on Patuxent River Naval Air Station Maryland and will be used for the training of test pilots. The first helicopter was delivered on November 12, 2009.

H145M

H145M

The multi-purpose helicopter is primarily used to bring special forces to their location. The H145M (formerly EC645 T2 LUH) has a boom with a Fenestron rear rotor, a digital cockpit with full night vision capability and an autopilot . During the maneuver, the special forces benefit from a spacious cabin with two large sliding doors and a rear door. In addition to the two pilots, there is room for up to nine other people in the cell, including a tactical operator who is responsible for operating the additional military equipment and armament. The equipment package also includes abseiling devices and external load hooks . The other equipment includes on-board armaments and an electro-optical system for reconnaissance. A self-protection system and armor provide additional protection for the crew. The machine can be strategically relocated in an Airbus A400M and used immediately after unloading from the transport aircraft. Tests for this took place in September 2015 on a so-called cargo hold trainer at Lufttransportgeschwader 62 in Wunstorf . The Bundeswehr had acquired 15 units by June 2017.

LUH SAR

As a replacement for the aging Bell UH-1 , a total of seven machines of the helicopter based on the H145M variant are to be put into service with the Bundeswehr by mid-2021. There the variant used is called the Search and Rescue Light Support Helicopter (LUH SAR). This variant is equipped with equipment for the medical care of patients and for air rescue; among other things with an external rescue winch.
