The Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation is a US-based companies in Stratford (Connecticut) , the helicopters , drones produced and aircraft.

history

The founder was Igor Ivanovich Sikorski from the Russian Empire , born in Kiev in 1889 . He designed a number of aircraft that were used, among other things, on the Russian side in the First World War . After the October Revolution in 1919 he traveled to the USA to do a study project, decided to stay there as an emigrant and founded the company in 1923. In the 1930s, a number of well-known aircraft designs emerged, such as the Sikorsky S-42 , which Pan Am used in their famous Clipper range. Sikorski then concentrated on the construction of helicopters in the late 1930s and is considered a real helicopter pioneer; Among other things, the widespread tail rotor configuration is largely due to him. In 1942, Sikorsky launched the Sikorsky R-4, the first mass-produced single-rotor helicopter.

The company became part of the United Aircraft and Transport Corporation in 1929 . When the holding was broken up in 1934, Sikorsky became part of United Technologies Corporation (UTC) and is still one of the leading manufacturers of helicopters. In early 2015, UTC announced that it was looking into selling Sikorsky. Inter alia, Airbus Helicopters , Boeing , Lockheed Martin and the Textron Group , which already owns its competitor Bell Helicopter , have shown interest . A sale to Airbus Helicopters was considered unlikely by the press and insiders from the start, as this company, unlike the other interested parties, is not US-American. On July 20, 2015, Lockheed Martin announced that it had been awarded the contract. According to the company, they paid $ 9 billion (or $ 7.1 billion after taking tax benefits into account).

Price for muscle power helicopter flight

The American Helicopter Society's AHS Sikorsky Prize of USD 25,000 was increased to USD 250,000 in 2010 by Sikorsky Aircraft and was finally won in 2013 by the Canadian AeroVelo project team with the AeroVelo Atlas muscle power helicopter .

Products

helicopter

The company manufactures products for the civil (e.g. S-92 , S-76 ) and military (e.g. UH-60 Black Hawk , CH-53 Stallion ) sector. The latest model in this series is the CH-53K King Stallion for the United States Marine Corps . The first machine was delivered to the US Marine Corps on May 16, 2018.

Planes

After purchasing Schweizer Aircraft Corporation in 2004, Sikorsky started manufacturing aircraft again. In February 2011, Sikorsky announced that it had acquired shares in Eclipse Aerospace in order to resume production of the Very Light Jet Eclipse 500 .

Since the takeover of the Polish PZL Mielec, their M18 and M28 models have been offered.
