The Sikorsky S-434 was a light single-engine helicopter from the US manufacturer Sikorsky with turbine drive , of which a total of nine machines were produced.

history

The Sikorsky S-434 is a further development of the Swiss S-333 under the name Sikorsky, which the company brought onto the market after the takeover of Schweizer in 2004. Compared to the S-333, the drive and the rotor have been changed, with a Rolls-Royce 250-C20W now being used. Together with the new, quieter four-blade rotor, the helicopter's payload increases to 840 kg. The helicopter's maiden flight took place on December 18, 2008 in Horseheads , New York State . The FAA approval was originally supposed to be obtained in 2010, before the date was only postponed to December 2011 and later to early 2012.

The first customer of two pieces in 2009 was the Ministry of the Interior of Saudi Arabia . After the nine machines ordered by Saudi Arabia had been delivered, a limited service life of drive components was determined. This led to Sikorsky taking the helicopter completely out of the program in March 2015. FAA approval had still not taken place at this point.

Schweizer called the price for the S-434 933,000 US dollars and put the cost per flight hour at 240 US dollars.
