The Sikorsky S-62 is an amphibious helicopter made by the US helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky . The helicopter was used, among other things, by the United States Coast Guard for search and rescue tasks, where it was called the HH-52A Seaguard .

development

It was based on the piston engine-driven Sikorsky S-55 , from which the airframe and essential systems such as rotor and hydraulics were taken over. However, the cockpit and drive positions had been swapped and the cabin was generally made more spacious. This was made possible by the use, for the first time at Sikorsky, of a smaller gas turbine with the same output , which drives a 3-blade main rotor and the conventional 2-blade tail rotor. The first flight took place on May 14, 1958 .

The reinforced, boat-shaped hull bottom meant that it could be deployed from land, water, ice, snow, sand and swamp. Support floats are attached to the side. The main landing gear and the tail wheel are rigid. The helicopter has not been in service with the US Coast Guard since 1993; its successor is the HH-65 Dolphin.
