The PZL M28 Skytruck is a short-haul transport aircraft produced by the Polish manufacturer PZL Mielec . It originated from the Soviet Antonov An-28 . The M28, powered by two turboprops , is characterized by STOL properties (take-off distance: 325 m) and can operate from makeshift airfields. It is available in a passenger version with 19 seats, as well as in a freight version (3085 kg payload ), as an ambulance aircraft and as a military transporter . A slightly modified version of the M28 is offered under the designation M28B Bryza (sea wind, breeze). The machine does not have a pressurized cabin .

The US Air Force Special Operations Forces ( AFSOC ) received a total of sixteen machines, the first of which was delivered in June 2009. The aircraft belonged to the 318th Special Operations Squadron of the 27th Special Operations Wing at Cannon Air Force Base , New Mexico. The planes are being purchased by the Sierra Nevada Corporation as an intermediary. The machines were named C-145A u. a. used in Afghanistan and Africa. In April 2013, the machines and their crews were handed over to the 6th Special Operations Squadron in Duke Field, Florida. 11 machines were later stored. Two of these are to be handed over to the Estonian Air Force .
