The PZL-130 Orlik (Polish for Lesser Spotted Eagle ) is a propeller-turbine-powered Polish training aircraft for beginners and advanced pilots that was developed by Państwowe Zakłady Lotnicze (PZL) in the early 1980s . PZL Warszawa-Okęcie has been part of EADS-CASA since 2001 .

description

Development work on the PZL-130 began in 1981. The production of four aircraft, a fracture cell for static load tests and three prototypes for flight tests began in 1982. The first sample with the registration number SP-PCA took off on its first flight on October 12, 1984. The first two pre-production aircraft, however, did not take off until February 1988. The reason for this delay was delivery problems of the Soviet nine-cylinder engine Vedenejew M-14PM , which achieved an output of 330 hp. As a consequence, other engines were considered; The company's own Kalisz K8-AA was installed in a pre-series machine, but it did not prove itself due to insufficient performance. The use of a Pratt & Whitney piston engine was also unsuccessful. After further engine tests, the Polish Air Force in 1991 placed an order for 48 PZL-130TB, with the Czech Turboprop -Triebwerk M601E equipped. The first Orliks were delivered in 1992.

Further versions of the PZL-130 Orlik with western engines were designed in order to win export customers, but this has not yet succeeded. In the TC II version, the PZL-130 is also flown by the Polish aerobatic team "Team Orlik" .
