The PZL-140 "Gąsior" ( German  Gänserich ) was a project by the Polish manufacturer PZL and the Polish aviation industry for a fire fighting aircraft based on aircraft built in Poland.

history

The aircraft project was intended to combine design features of aircraft already in service to create an optimal fire fighting aircraft. From the PZL-106 BS should engine, front fuselage, aft fuselage, wing and tailplane , the PZL-106BT-601, the vertical stabilizer and the An-2 Antonov be taken over the propeller and the main landing gear. The fuselage between the engine and cabin should be designed as an integral water tank. The aircraft was designed as a biplane with only one wing strut close to the fuselage and a shorter upper wing. Only scaled-down models were built.

Name confusion

A PZL-140 "Orlik 2000", which has nothing in common with the machine described here, appears in various Internet publications, and the "Gąsior" aircraft is also referred to in one publication as the PZL-118. Otherwise no further information is available on the PZL-118. It is possible that the project name of the PZL-140 "Gąsior" was changed in the course of development, but perhaps only the number PZL-140, which was free again due to the lack of implementation, was later reassigned to another project.
