The Airbus Helicopters H225 Super-Puma (formerly Eurocopter EC 225 ) is a medium - weight multi - purpose and transport helicopter in the 11-tonne class with a long range from the manufacturer Airbus Helicopters (formerly Eurocopter ). It can hold up to 24 passengers at the same time.

history

The H225 Super Puma is a member of the “ Super Puma ” family - a further development of the Aérospatiale AS 332 with a slightly elongated hull and five-bladed main rotor. Her maiden flight was on November 27, 2000 with Hervé Jammayrac, Bernard Turcat and Daniel Sémiol on board. The first public performance took place on January 15, 2001.

In January 2010 the Indonesian company PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) announced a collaboration with Eurocopter. PTDI will produce components such as the tail boom and the cabin cell; the first delivery of a licensed helicopter for the Indonesian market is planned for 2011.

Range of use

The H225 can be used in the following areas:

Problems and misfortunes

The predecessor model, the AS 332, was involved in several serious aircraft accidents . In the case of the H225, after two emergency landings due to similar problems with the gearbox of the rotor in 2012/2013, all machines of the 2012/2013 type were shut down in the North Sea for 9 months. In June 2013 the European Aviation Commission accepted an interim solution and released the aircraft for air traffic again. British oil workers protested in late 2013 against the continued use of the Super Puma , which they considered unreliable and dangerous. On April 29, 2016, the Turøy helicopter accident occurred , in which 13 people were killed when the main rotor came off the helicopter after a defect. The Norwegian and British authorities then imposed a temporary flight ban. On June 2, 2016, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) issued a temporary flight ban. A day later, a spokesman for the Bundeswehr announced that the three government helicopters (they are not identical to the one that crashed in Turøy) would remain on the ground as a precaution.

Military version

There is a military version of the H225, the Airbus Helicopters H225M .
