The Bell 412 is a further development of the Bell 212 . It is a turbine-powered multipurpose helicopter that has found both civil and military customers all over the world.

Depending on the application, Bell offers various additional equipment, such as a winch, a weather radar, a searchlight, a Forward Looking Infra-Red (FLIR) monitoring system, as well as the possibility of carrying external loads such as fire extinguishing containers (Bambi Buckets). The Bell 412 can also be equipped for instrument flight in accordance with IFR flight rules.

The "4" in the type designation of the Bell 412 stands for the four-blade main rotor (Bell 212 - two rotor blades). The torque of the main rotor is compensated for by a two-blade tail rotor . The helicopter can be delivered with both a skid landing gear and a landing gear.

The Bell 412 is a further development of the globally used UH-1 Iroquois , which is unofficially known as "Huey".
