The Bell 407 is a seven-seat single-engine helicopter with turbine drive and four-bladed main rotor made by the American manufacturer Bell Helicopter .

history

To create a successor to the Bell 206, which is equipped with a two-bladed rotor, the development of the Bell 407 began in 1993. The prototype first flew on June 29, 1995. The helicopter is produced by Bell Helicopter in Mirabel in the Canadian province of Québec . In June 2010 the 1000th Bell 407 (serial number 54000) was delivered to a Japanese helicopter operator.

ARH-70A

From the civilian model, the armed reconnaissance helicopter ARH-70A (ARH) was to be developed as a military variant to replace the OH-58D Kiowa of the US armed forces. The order for this was placed in 2005 by the US Army. The helicopter was launched on 20 July 2006 in Arlington for its first flight, however, had with various technical problems - engine HS900 by among others, the Honeywell  - to fight, also crashed one of the prototypes on 21 February 2007 from. However, when the project threatened to exceed the planned costs by about 70%, development was stopped.

Bell 407AH

A light armed helicopter capable of flying at night for homeland security and law enforcement (police tasks), first presented in March 2011 . It is equipped with a six-barrel Dillon M134T (7.62 mm) machine gun and a seven- barrel M260 rocket launcher for unguided 2.75-inch missiles.
