Christoph 46 is the radio call name for the rescue helicopters stationed at Heinrich-Braun-Klinikum Zwickau . The site has been in operation since October 1990 and had 27,000 deployments in the first quarter of 2013. The DRF Luftrettung operated the location until December 31, 2018 . In the course of the regular new tendering process, ADAC-Luftrettung received an eight-year contract from January 1, 2019.

Staffing

The crew of the Eurocopter EC 135 consists of a pilot , an emergency doctor and an air rescue assistant . The staffing of the location includes four more permanent paramedics from the German Air Rescue. Sixteen emergency doctors are also available from the Heinrich-Braun-Klinikum Zwickau; including many anesthetists .

Types of use

In addition to emergency rescue missions , transfer flights are also carried out with Christoph 46 .

Region-specific types of use

The catchment area of Christoph 46 includes the Vogtland and parts of the Ore Mountains - both regions that rely on quick help from the air due to the extensive and sometimes difficult road conditions. The area is also used for tourism all year round. In the winter months in particular, comprehensive supply must be guaranteed in cooperation with the mountain rescue service.

accident

Christoph 46 had an accident on January 26, 2014 while landing on a ski slope in Oberwiesenthal . The helicopter skidded after landing and slid against a traffic sign and a snowmobile. Neither the crew nor passers-by were injured. There was only significant property damage.
