" Christoph 15 " is the rescue helicopter stationed at the St. Elisabeth Clinic in Straubing , which was put into service on November 17, 1977.

history

Flight operations in Straubing began on November 17, 1977 as the fifteenth location in Germany with a Bölkow Bo 105 . The operator was the Federal Ministry of the Interior , the pilots came from the Fliegerstaffel Süd of the Federal Border Guard , the emergency doctors from the St. Elisabeth Hospital, and paramedics from the BRK district association Straubing-Bogen.

On December 1, 1995 ADAC Luftrettung GmbH took over the Straubing site with a Bo 105 CBS after the federal government withdrew . The pilots have been employees of the ADAC since then, the emergency doctors and paramedics continue to come from the clinic and the Red Cross.

In July 2014, a new helicopter platform was put into operation on the roof of the hospital. The rescue helicopter was previously stationed in an area south of the hospital building.

helicopter

A Eurocopter EC 135 has been used in place of the Bo 105 at the Straubing site since August 1998 . The helicopter has a cruising speed of 240 kilometers per hour (km / h) and a maximum speed of 287 km / h. Compared to previous models, the size of the helicopter is a big advantage. The EC 135 offers the emergency doctor more space and thus more treatment room than other helicopter models.

crew

The standard crew of Christoph 15 consists of three members:

The pilots are provided by the ADAC air rescue service. The emergency doctors are anesthetists, internists and surgeons who work at the St. Elisabeth Straubing Clinic. The paramedics are employees of the Bavarian Red Cross, Straubing-Bogen district association. In total, Christoph 15's team includes three pilots, 16 emergency doctors and five paramedics.

Location

The rescue helicopter is stationed at the St. Elisabeth Clinic in Straubing. The history of the hospital goes back to the 18th century, when the sick were treated for the first time in the Abbey of Azlburg by the Elizabeth women who lived there . The Straubing women's hospital developed out of the monastery, which has meanwhile had a capacity of 350 beds. In 1844, the Order of the Brothers of Mercy founded a men's hospital, which was housed in the former Franciscan monastery close to the Azlburg monastery. After the Barmherzigen Brüder withdrew, both houses were continued by the newly founded Elisabeth Krankenhaus GmbH from 1975 . In 1997 the new building was occupied, since then all facilities have been housed in one house. The clinic is a regional focus hospital of the second level of  care .

The air rescue service has been on the roof of the clinic building since July 2014. This is also where the staff's standby and common rooms are located. The total costs for the new building amounted to 7.5 million euros, which will be borne by the clinic and ADAC air rescue. Before that, Christoph was stationed 15 south of the hospital building on St.-Elisabeth-Straße. This required that patients be transported to the clinic by an additional ambulance. The platform is accessible via an elevator, so that the duration of the transport has been shortened considerably.

operation area

Christoph 15's area of work covers a radius of approx. 50–70 kilometers around Straubing and thus includes western Lower Bavaria and southern Upper Palatinate . In addition to Straubing , the area of application includes the cities of Regensburg , Cham , Regen , Deggendorf , Plattling , Dingolfing and Landau an der Isar .

The dual-use helicopters Christoph Regensburg , Christophorus Europa 3 ( Suben ), Christoph 14 ( Traunstein ), the two helicopters, Christoph München and Christoph 1 , and Christoph 32 ( Ingolstadt ) are in use adjacent to the Christoph 15 area .

Incidents

  • On January 18, 1979, the helicopter crashed during an operation near Feldkirchen ( Straubing-Bogen district ). The pilot was killed.
  • On July 30, 2015, Christoph 15 was called to a traffic accident in Schöllnach . While the crew was caring for the slightly injured patient, a school bus hit one of the helicopter's rotor blades. This resulted in damage of several hundred thousand euros to the helicopter, the bus only had a destroyed windshield. In the evening, the station was able to resume operations with a replacement machine.
