Christoph 42 is the radio call name of the rescue helicopter stationed at Rendsburg-Schachtholm airfield . It is operated by the DRF Luftrettung and used for air rescue in Rendsburg and large parts of Schleswig-Holstein .

Station, use and occupation

The helicopter of the type H145 is alerted by the Integrated Regional Control Center in Kiel for rescue operations with an emergency doctor's indication if an emergency medical vehicle (NEF) is not available in time, the type of emergency makes it necessary to transport a patient by helicopter or intensive care transports of patients are necessary.

During its operations, the rescue helicopter Christoph 42 is manned by a pilot from the DRF Luftrettung during the day . Two pilots are required at night. Christoph 42 is the only rescue helicopter in Schleswig-Holstein that can fly to missions after dark and around the clock. The paramedic that also employees of the DRF are air rescue, belong to the helicopter crew ( HEMS crew member ) and assist the pilot in the field of communications and navigation, while the ambulance which a qualification in the fields of anesthesia , surgery , internal medicine or general medicine has and comes from the surrounding clinics (including the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein ), is legally only a passenger .

history

Christoph 42 entered service on February 20, 1975. DRF Luftrettung has been the operator since then. He has been on standby around the clock (24 hours a day) since 2004. After the expansion of flight operations, protests were loud from residents at the site, who felt disturbed by the aircraft noise and the night flights. During a renovation at the location of the rescue helicopter in 2010, the Christoph 42 was temporarily stationed at Rendsburg-Schachtholm airfield.

In 2015 there was renewed criticism of the stationing of the rescue helicopter. In addition to the noise, the low number of patients being transported to the imland Klinik Rendsburg was criticized. The criticism subsided when a quieter EC145 was used from 2016 . In 2018, DRF Luftrettung was looking for a new location for Christoph 42 for the first time, because the existing station was not designed for more modern helicopters of the H145 type . On July 24, 2020, the move to Rendsburg-Schachtholm Airport took place with the conversion to an H145.
