The Rendsburg-Schachtholm airfield is a commercial airfield south-southwest of the Schleswig-Holstein city of Rendsburg and southwest of the community of Schülp b. Rendsburg . The airfield is located south of the Kiel Canal , near the Breiholz ferry. It can be reached via the street parallel to the Rendsburg Canal or from Breiholz . The airfield belongs to the municipality of Hörsten , which lies on both sides of the canal.
history
After flight operations at the Rendsburg-Kamp airfield were discontinued and the area was sold by the city to the Federal Association of German Training Institutes for Agricultural Engineering (DEULA) in Rendsburg, today's site was u. a. prepared for flight operations with the help of the Bundeswehr. This area is a little higher than the surrounding area, as it is a washed up area of sand. Sand that could not be used in the construction of the canal was deposited here. The first landing on the field took place on May 14, 1960, it was officially approved on September 20, 1960. Just a few years later, in August 1964, the 18th German Aerobatic Championship took place here.
The airfield is operated by the Rendsburg-Schachtholm Betriebs GmbH airfield . There are several aircraft hangars, a gas station, a tower and a restaurant on the site. There are also two flight schools, one for powered flight and one for microlight aircraft, on the airfield.
The rescue helicopter Christoph 42 of the DRF Luftrettung has been housed on the premises since July 24, 2020 after the station at the previous location had become too small. The helicopter type EC145 was replaced by a modern H145 . The helicopter is the only 24-hour helicopter in Schleswig-Holstein.
training centre
In March 2016, the Schleswig-Holstein Aviation Association decided to use the airfield as a training center for the state's youngsters. The umbrella organization with 31 clubs and 2800 members originally wanted to build this center at Kiel-Holtenau airfield . However, the project was dropped because the future of the Kiel-Holtenau airfield was uncertain and the current opening times were very limited. Until the end of December 2015, the association had its headquarters in Schacht-Audorf. As a result, there will be around 500 additional take-offs in Schachtholm with currently almost 6,000 aircraft movements.
Admission
The airfield is approved for all helicopters , motor gliders , gliders and ultralight aircraft , balloons and parachutists weighing up to 12,000 kg on asphalt and up to 5700 kg on grass.
Regardless of these restrictions, the airfield is used by Transall C-160 machines from the neighboring Hohn Air Base to practice steep approaches on the local short runway .
