The airfield Ahrenlohe is a special airfield in Schleswig-Holstein Tornesch . It is suitable for aircraft up to 5700 kg. Due to its status, the airport may only be approached with the prior approval of the operator.

History and events

The airfield was laid out in the 1960s by the Uetersen manufacturer Rolf Hatlapa. In 1964 the aviation authority gave it permission to operate it as a sports airfield. As early as 1968 around 2850 take-offs and landings were carried out. In mid-1973, the grass runway was paved with asphalt and an agreement was reached on flight density, as many residents felt annoyed by the aircraft noise. Aircraft movements were limited to 2000 per year to protect residents. In 1972, the airfield hit the headlines after a plane carrying five people crashed in the adjacent forest after take-off, killing all of the occupants. The site was later auctioned and aircraft movements decreased to around six take-offs and landings a day. Since 2004 there have only been isolated flight movements on the field.

Location and directions

The small airfield is located 2 km east of the city of Tornesch. The BAB 23 Hamburg - Heide leads to the east, the railway line Hamburg- Kiel leads to the west past him.
