Christoph 5 is the rescue helicopter stationed at the trade association accident clinic in Ludwigshafen , which was put into service as a civilian rescue helicopter by the Federal Ministry of the Interior on November 13, 1973 .

The operator at the moment is ADAC Luftrettung GmbH in Munich, which provides both the pilots and the on-board technicians (the flight is carried out with 3 men: pilot, paramedic and emergency doctor), and the responsible body is the Ministry of the Interior and Sports of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate .

The "flying emergency doctors" are trauma surgeons and anesthetists from the BG Unfallklinik , the emergency paramedics come from the German Red Cross (Rettungsdienst Vorderpfalz GmbH). The responsible rescue control center is the integrated control center Ludwigshafen .

history

On November 13, 1973 the first mission of Christoph 5 took place, three days before the official handover on November 16. The rescue helicopter was located outside of the service period until mid-1975 at the Speyer airfield , as there were no corresponding buildings at the professional association accident clinic in Ludwigshafen. The hangar at the BG Unfallklinik was completed and handed over on June 30, 1975. The pilots came alternately from the BGS - Fliegerstaffel Mitte from Kassel, from the Army Fliegerstaffel of the Bundeswehr from Nuremberg or from the BGS Fliegerstaffel Süd from Oberschleißheim .

On May 13, 2006, the operator changed from the Federal Ministry of the Interior / Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief to ADAC Luftrettung GmbH. An EC135 version P2 + has been in use since September 2011.

In 2011, missions were flown in 1970, making Christoph 5 the ADAC Air Rescue helicopter with the most missions that year. 2014 was Christoph 5's busiest year with 2013.

Others

The name Christoph goes back to St. Christopher , the patron saint of motorists. After him, all German rescue helicopters have the BOS radio call name Christoph , followed by a number for rescue helicopters and a description of the location for intensive care transport helicopters.
