Christoph Hansa , formerly: Christoph 50 , is the radio call name of the ADAC helicopter , which was originally operated as an intensive care transport helicopter (ITH) and is used for patient transfers in Hamburg . In the meantime, however, the helicopter is used more frequently for rescue missions in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
Station, use and occupation
The helicopter is stationed at the BG Klinikum Hamburg in Boberg . It is open daily from sunrise to sunset in readiness . He is alerted by the integrated Florian Hamburg control center for rescue operations with an emergency doctor indication if an emergency medical vehicle (NEF) is not available in time or the type of injury makes it necessary to transport a patient by helicopter.
The Christoph Hansa is officially regarded as an intensive care transport helicopter, which means that its actual task is to transfer patients. The Christoph Hansa was the most used ITH in Germany in 2002 and 2003 . In the meantime, due to the increased number of accidents , it is also used in rescue and now flies more rescue than relocation flights.
During his missions, Christoph Hansa is manned by a pilot from ADAC Luftrettung, an emergency doctor and a paramedic from the Hamburg Accident Hospital. The paramedics are part of the helicopter crew ( HEMS Crew Member ) and support the pilot in the areas of communication and navigation, while the emergency doctor is legally a passenger .
history
The air rescue location at the BG Klinikum Hamburg in Boberg was put into operation on February 2, 1990.
The Christoph Hansa was the first " ambulance helicopter " in Germany and was used to fly patient transfers under medical supervision. At the beginning the helicopter model Bölkow Bo 105 was used.
On July 10, 1997, a model change was made at Christoph Hansa, until 2004 an MD 900 Explorer or MD 902 Explorer II was used.

The name Christoph Hansa goes back to St. Christopher , the patron saint of travelers. After him, all German rescue helicopters have the BOS radio call name Christoph , followed by a number for rescue helicopters and a description of the location for intensive care transport helicopters.
