Christoph Dortmund is at Dortmund Airport stationed rescue helicopter of the DRF Air Rescue for primary missions (emergency rescue), and secondary operations such as (intensive) transfer flights.

history

The air rescue center (LRZ) was put into service in February 1989 by the Westphalia air ambulance service. In July 2002 HSD Luftrettung took over flight operations at the station, and at the beginning of 2003 the station operations were completely taken over. In 2011 Florian Dortmund 0-84-01 was renamed Christoph Dortmund (Christoph 83) at the request of the DRF.

In 2014 the helicopter flew 636 sorties.

Since July 2, 2015, the flying personnel has been provided by DRF Luftrettung , or the pilots have been taken over, since HSD Luftrettung was absorbed by DRF Luftrettung on that day.

The type EC 145 machine can carry out incubator transports and special IABP transports for patients with heart disease, as it has a 230 V voltage converter. "Christoph Dortmund" is also one of the few helicopters in Germany that can carry out transports with a mobile heart-lung machine. The helicopter is therefore not only used for emergency operations, but also for intensive care transports on interhospital flights. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the machine was equipped with an EpiShuttle.

The operational area is 70 kilometers around the Dortmund location. This means that the helicopter can fly to a large part of the Ruhr area.
